A financial officer in South Korea was sentenced to 3 years in prison for embezzling 570 million won of public funds to invest in cryptocurrency assets

According to South Korean media Newsis, a company finance employee in their 20s was sentenced to 3 years in prison by the Busan District Court for embezzling funds for cryptocurrency investments.

The court found that between 2021 and 2025, they transferred company funds to personal accounts approximately 680 times, embezzling a total of about 570 million won, and used the related funds for trading cryptocurrencies, overseas travel, and living expenses; they also forged company deposit trust balance certificates to cover up the crime.
