AI Analysis of Bitcoin Core Detects Two Minor Issues
Sixteen AI agents from five models analyzed Bitcoin Core v32.0rc1 over the course of a week, identifying two minor issues that were responsibly disclosed. Jeff Lunglhofer, head of security at Coinbase, stated that Bitcoin Core is one of the most reviewed codes in the world. The experiment, coordinated by Lunglhofer, assessed the AI's ability to detect problems in Bitcoin software. The agents contrasted findings between models and subjected vulnerabilities to tests to verify if they could be exploited. Additionally, on October 28, Bitcoin Core published three vulnerabilities detected through an automated analysis of the Loupe Project. A medium-severity vulnerability allowed a malicious participant to exhaust the memory of nodes on Windows, macOS, or BSD, while another caused a gradual increase in memory consumption. Developers released fixes in Bitcoin Core versions 29.5, 30.4, 31.2, and 32.1 and modified their policy to expedite the disclosure of easily discoverable vulnerabilities. AI enhances the capacity for reviewing open-source code, accelerating the detection of flaws before they can be exploited.
