Bitcoin Falls Amidst Turmoil Surrounding AI Data Centers
Investors are concerned about high financing costs at AI data center companies, which affected both stocks and bitcoin on Thursday. CoreWeave, an American company that rents out computing power, has bonds yielding around 15 percent, indicating high risks for investors. On October 22, CoreWeave's stock fell by about 10 percent as investors doubted whether the revenues from new AI projects could cover the high costs. Bitcoin followed the stock market and behaved like a risky investment that is sold off amid increasing uncertainty. QCP noted that issues at one AI company do not directly impact bitcoin but could trigger a broader flight from risky investments. Additionally, the interest rates on French government bonds rose above 5 percent, and oil prices reached their highest level in five months due to tensions in the Middle East. Higher oil prices could drive inflation and make it difficult for central banks to lower interest rates. QCP expects little chance of an interest rate hike at the next meeting of the U.S. Federal Reserve, which could maintain the uncertainty surrounding bitcoin.
