Cardano Hydra Test Shows 1.9x Throughput Increase
A Cardano scaling test revealed a 1.9 times throughput increase for Midnight claim transactions on the new Hydra version. The test compared 24,576 generated claim transactions, measuring throughput rise from 42 to 79 claims per second and reducing total completion time from 590.4 to 339.1 seconds, a 43% decrease. The report clarifies that these results do not represent a mainnet benchmark, as Hydra heads process transactions among their participants before settling with Cardano, minimizing global workload replication. This comparison aids application builders in assessing specific tasks. The controlled replay holds the workload and host steady, making software comparisons clearer than tests on different hardware. However, it does not replicate all production conditions, such as dispersed participants or changing demand. The results indicate a significant improvement in the claim pipeline's speed on the newer implementation, but do not guarantee similar performance for all Cardano transactions.
