Citrini Research Sees Opportunities in Tokenization Beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum
Citrini Research identifies a turning point for tokenization, where financial products such as stocks and bonds are converted into digital tokens on a blockchain. The focus is not only on the quantity of products but also on the destination of the funds with increasing usage. The report 'Breaking The Wall' emphasizes that financial products are becoming increasingly programmable and tradable 24/7, aligning with a future where software and AI execute transactions autonomously. However, more activity on a blockchain does not guarantee that Bitcoin or Ethereum will be the biggest winners. Citrini focuses on companies and protocols that generate revenue when investors issue, trade, or use tokenized products as collateral. Publicly listed companies such as Securitize, Coinbase, Robinhood, and Circle can benefit from the issuance and trading of digital securities. Within the crypto sector, platforms like Aerodrome, Maple, Aave, and Uniswap are also mentioned, which collect fees. Ondo Finance focuses on tokenized government bonds, while Chainlink provides market data. These parties are potential beneficiaries but not guaranteed winners, as more trading volume does not automatically lead to higher token prices. Investors should pay attention to who retains the fees and whether coin holders actually benefit. There are also risks, such as liquidity fragmentation, errors in smart contracts, and unclear legislation surrounding digital securities. The analysis suggests that the greatest value may lie in financial services built on top of the blockchain, not necessarily in the most well-known cryptocurrencies.
