Ethereum Releases CALLSTATUS Instruction EIP Draft

By: github.com|10/26/2026 01:47:58

The Ethereum community has released a draft for the CALLSTATUS instruction EIP. This draft allows the CALLSTATUS instruction to return the completion status of the most recent call or create operation in the current frame, distinguishing between success, rollback, abnormal termination, and lower-level termination in a three-bit binary format. The proposal aims to enable contracts to reliably differentiate between intentional rollbacks and abnormal terminations such as gas exhaustion after a call failure, preventing senders from manipulating failure results through gas, and accommodating future changes in state creation metrics.
