Hong Kong Police Report Over HKD 4 Million Loss from Cryptocurrency Exchange Company
The Hong Kong Police's "Cyber Defender" platform announced that it has received over 150 reports of WhatsApp account hijacking scams in the past two weeks, with total losses exceeding HKD 15 million. Recently, an employee's account at a cryptocurrency exchange company was hijacked by scammers, who blocked the original work group and created a fake new group, impersonating customer representatives to request cryptocurrency exchanges. The employee, following standard procedures, transferred cryptocurrency to a designated wallet and deducted funds from the customer account, only to realize they had been scammed after discovering the customer's wallet balance was insufficient and verifying by phone. The company ultimately suffered a loss of over HKD 4 million.
