LND Releases v0.21.5-beta.rc1 with Fee Estimate Limits
LND's v0.21.5-beta.rc1 release on October 22 addresses wallet risks from overly generous external fee estimates. The update introduces a ceiling of 10,000 satoshis per virtual byte for external fee estimates, limiting their impact on fee-sensitive wallet operations. This change is not an endorsement of such fees as normal or necessary under current network conditions. The release notes emphasize that fee estimates are inputs for decision-making, not mandatory instructions. Additionally, the release includes a fix for a native SQL connection-pool deadlock, which is crucial for node reliability. The pre-release requires no database migration and provides verification instructions, although it does not guarantee consistent behavior across all node configurations. Testing must encompass actual service operations, including request handling and storage access. The update highlights the importance of software maintenance alongside custody controls in Bitcoin lending.
