Logan Paul's Charizard Pokemon Card Sells for a Record-Breaking $16.49 Million, Setting a New World Record for the Most Expensive Trading Card
BlockBeats News, February 16th, American top streamer Logan Paul's Pikachu Illustrator PSA 10 graded card, known as the Pokémon collecting world's "Holy Grail" card, was officially hammered at Goldin Auctions early this morning, with a total closing price of $16,492,000, setting multiple historical records.
The final hammer price for the card was $13.3 million, which, after a 24% buyer's premium, reached $16.492 million, more than three times the amount Logan Paul paid when he acquired it for $5.275 million in 2021. It also set a new Guinness World Record as the most expensive single trading card ever sold at auction, surpassing the previous record in the sports card field.
The card originates from a Pokémon illustration contest held in 1998 by the Japanese magazine "CoroCoro Comic," with only about 39-41 copies awarded and never officially sold to the public. Hand-drawn by Pikachu's original designer, Atsuko Nishida, with the exclusive "Illustrator" inscription, Logan Paul's card is the only known PSA 10 perfect graded sample in the world (Pop 1) and is regarded as the "Pokémon world's Mona Lisa."
The auction lasted for 41 days, experiencing several dramatic back-and-forth moments. In the final extended bidding stage, intense bidding wars took place, totaling 97 bids. Logan Paul himself was present at the event, delivering the card to the new buyer along with a diamond-encrusted necklace he wore at WrestleMania 38, and live unboxing other vintage cards for entertainment. The new buyer is rumored to be AJ Scaramucci, founder of the venture capital fund Solari Capital and son of former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci.
