NVIDIA and Cisco Launch USFP Optical Module to Expand AI Factory Networks
NVIDIA and Cisco have jointly launched a new pluggable optical module form factor, USFP, aimed at expanding the network scale of AI factories. The USFP is the first module to support 400Gb/s electrical signals per channel, with a maximum single-module capacity of 12.8Tb/s. It can connect more computing systems without adding network layers, while reducing the power consumption per bit of data transmitted. The bandwidth density of the USFP is four times that of existing 200Gb/s-per-lane optical modules, with a 1.3 times improvement in energy efficiency. NVIDIA and Cisco are collaborating with TE Connectivity and Amphenol to build a multi-source hardware ecosystem around the USFP.
