OpenAI CEO Meets Samsung Executives to Deepen Storage Chip Cooperation
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman met with approximately 50 executives from Samsung Group in South Korea on October 31 to discuss collaboration in the fields of storage chips and AI infrastructure. Participants included representatives from Samsung Electronics, finance, and biotechnology sectors, with topics covering the impact of AI on industry and business opportunities over the next decade. This meeting comes at a time of global supply shortages and rising prices for storage chips, amid a surge in demand from data center operators, further intensifying competition for chip supplies. The five major global AI infrastructure players plan to invest over $300 billion in the coming years, with storage chips accounting for about one-third of data center expenditures. This meeting continues the previous collaboration between the two parties, including the supply of storage chips for OpenAI's "Interstellar Gateway" infrastructure project and joint efforts to build AI data centers, including offshore floating data center solutions.
