Ripple CEO Emphasizes Changes After SEC Lawsuit
Brad Garlinghouse, the CEO of Ripple, stated that the company has significantly changed following its long-standing lawsuit with the SEC. He emphasized that proving the practical value of financial products utilizing blockchain technology is a new challenge. Garlinghouse explained the changes post-SEC lawsuit and the digital asset regulatory policies in the U.S. at the 'Ripple Swell 2026' event held in New York. The lawsuit between Ripple and the SEC began in December 2020 and officially ended in 2025. He mentioned that the prolonged legal dispute provided an opportunity to reflect on the perception of digital assets. Garlinghouse pointed out that the portrayal of the digital asset industry as a tool for criminals by former SEC Chairman Gary Gensler and Senator Elizabeth Warren is a misconception, stressing the need to demonstrate that useful financial products are being created on blockchain. He regarded the GENIUS Act, a stablecoin regulatory law enacted last year, as a historical turning point for entering the digital asset market. In contrast, the CLARITY Act did not pass through Congress. Garlinghouse explained that the SEC and CFTC are filling regulatory gaps and expressed optimism for positive changes in the digital asset industry. Additionally, he proudly mentioned Ripple's participation in the establishment of the National Digital Asset Association.
