Venezuela announced its decision to withdraw from the International Criminal Court in The Hague, citing biased rulings and persecution against the country. Foreign Minister Félix Plasencia González communicated to António Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, the "firm and irrevocable decision to denounce the Rome Statute and initiate its definitive withdrawal from the ICC." Plasencia argued that the Court has shown a "geographical bias" by focusing its work on African and Latin American countries, which affects the Global South. Additionally, the foreign minister criticized international justice for being used to deepen inequalities and disregard the right to self-determination. Venezuela was expecting a ruling from the Court regarding a border conflict with Guyana. In another context, the country reported an increase in the death toll from the 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes that occurred nearly a month ago, reaching 5,398 fatalities. Jorge Rodríguez, president of the National Assembly, shared that the number of affected individuals has risen to 17,907. The International Monetary Fund unlocked $346 million to support reconstruction efforts. Acting President Delcy Rodríguez promised to deliver 4,000 homes to the affected before the end of the year and another 10,000 by 2027.
