The NBA lacks clear guidelines for on-chain prediction markets; "The Greek Freak" becomes a shareholder in Kalshi, raising potential conflict of interest concerns
BlockBeats News, February 7th, according to The New York Times, as the on-chain prediction platform belongs to the emerging field, the NBA league currently has no clear management rules, so it is in a gray area. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver will face a major dilemma: whether players turning their trades into financial products is a violation of regulations.
It is reported that "The Greek Freak" Giannis Antetokounmpo specifically chose to announce his ownership in the sports prediction platform Kalshi Sports after the player trade deadline, when all betting markets had settled, thus avoiding direct compliance scrutiny during the trading period. The betting amount on whether "The Greek Freak" would leave before the deadline on Kalshi reached as high as $23.31 million, while the Bucks announced hours before the deadline that they would not trade "The Greek Freak" this season.
