Vance Proposes Direct Negotiations with Iran, Istanbul or Doha as Meeting Locations
U.S. Vice President Vance has sent a letter to the hardline leaders of Iran, expressing his willingness to meet in person to discuss a plan to end the war through negotiations. The core of the letter emphasizes national interests, including the U.S. core interest of ensuring that Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons, as well as Iran's interests in rebuilding its economy and maintaining national sovereignty. Vance has requested Iran to send authorized representatives to discuss nuclear issues. He has proactively reached out to Rezaei, considering him a key figure for U.S.-Tehran engagement who can help forge a consensus within Iran to halt its nuclear program. U.S. intelligence officials have noted that Rezaei maintains regular contact with Iran's Supreme Leader Mujtaba, and since the letter was delivered, the two have communicated. If a meeting takes place, the most likely locations are Istanbul, Turkey, or Doha, Qatar.
