Wall Street Invests in Crypto Companies

Citadel Securities invested $400 million in Crypto.com on July 16, valuing the platform at $20 billion. This investment marks Citadel's first institutional fundraising in ten years. In November 2025, Citadel had already invested $200 million in Kraken, valuing the exchange at $20 billion, bringing its total investments to $600 million in two competing platforms. Citadel and Jane Street, as market makers, capture a significant share of trading volumes, including on Bitcoin ETFs. The Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) took a $200 million stake in OKX in March, valuing the exchange at $25 billion, and formalized a joint venture to provide OKX users access to tokenized shares of the NYSE. ICE had also invested $2 billion in Polymarket, valuing the platform at $9 billion. Nasdaq invested $50 million in Gemini, also targeting the tokenization of traditional assets. These moves indicate a gradual entry of Wall Street into the capital of major crypto platforms.
